Photograph of Mussorie Old Church was taken by John Edward Saché in the 1870s. Mussoorie is situated at a height of over 2000m in the Himalayan foothills of Uttar Pradesh. It has been a popular hill station since the1820s when the British military officer Captain Young laid the foundations of this town. Hill stations were established in the 19th century to serve as cool retreats from the intense heat of the plains.
